Paper Pattern for UGAT 2019:
Total Questions: 130 | Total Marks: 130 | Total Duration: 120 minutes | Negative Marking: 0.25 marks
Section 1: Quantitative Ability
No. of Questions: 30
Like every year, even this year, majority of the questions were based on Arithmetic and its application. There were around 5 questions on Rate and work, 2 questions on Simple Interest and Compound Interest, 1 question each from Time Speed and Distance, Ratio Proportion and Mixture and 2 questions each from Profit and Loss and Fractions and few questions were from miscellaneous topics. There were 2 DI sets; one on Bar Graph which was doable and other was based on Logic-based DI, which should have been avoided. There were no questions on mensuration and geometry. What might have surprised some students is the complete absence of questions from topics like Linear Equations, Quadratic Equations, and Number Systems.
Overall the section can be considered as Moderate. A well-prepared student would have attempted 24+ Questions with 80%+ accuracy. Ideal time allotted to this section could be 30-35 Minutes. A good score in this section could be 18+.
Section 2: General English
No. of Questions: 40
Just like every year, this year too there were two passages of 5 questions each, out of which one RC was very easy and in the other RC, questions were on the title of the passage and rest were inference based. Questions on Vocabulary were easy to moderate and included 4 questions on finding the incorrect Spelling, 5 questions each on closest Synonym and Antonyms, 5 questions on Idioms and Phrases, 5 questions each on One-word substitution and on replacing the underlined word in the given sentence with appropriate synonyms. A candidate with good vocabulary would have capitalised on these. There was around 5-6 Fill in the Blanks questions and all of these were based on Prepositions. Like last year, even this year questions based on Error Spotting and Parajumbles were missing.
Overall the section can be considered Easy. Candidate with good command over language would have attempted 35+ questions in 30 minutes with 80%+ accuracy. A good score in this section could be 26+.
Section 3: Analytical and Logical Reasoning
No. of Questions: 30
This section was very Easy. There were 2 sets of 5 questions each; one on Blood Relation and the other was a Puzzle. Then there were 4 questions on number series and 1 question on odd man out (number based), 2 questions on Coding-Decoding, 1 question on Direction Sense, 1 single question on Blood Relation, 2 questions each on Assertion and Reasoning, Cause and Effect, Statement-Assumptions, Statement-Conclusion and 3 questions on Analogy.
Overall this section can be considered Easy. A well-prepared student would have attempted all 30 Questions with 85%+ accuracy. Ideal time allotted to this section could be 35-40 minutes. A good score in this section could be 24+.
Section 4: General Awareness
No. of Questions: 30
This section was skewed towards static GK. Only 7-8 Current affair questions were asked. Static GK questions were based on History, Geography, Economics, and Sports. There were 5 questions on important dates, which were difficult to crack unless if one had rote learned. One question was regarding length and breadth of Indian Flag, another was on which President served for the longest period. Current affairs questions were based on who’s who, UNICEF brand ambassador, FBB brand, Thomas and Uber Cup.
Overall this section can be considered Moderate. A well-read student should be able to attempt 20+ questions in 10 minutes with 75% accuracy. A good score in this section would be 13+
OVERALL UGAT 2019 EXAM ANALYSIS:
