K J Somaiya Institute of Management, Mumbai, is one of the most renowned B-schools in India. It is an Autonomous Educational Institute approved by University Grant Commission and is a constituent Institute of Somaiya Vidyavihar University (SVU). K J Somaiya Institute of Management, was established in 1981. This Institute was established mainly to provide an exceptional education for the students and the state of art education management and allied areas. This institute is well known for its infrastructure facility starting from the campus, which is of 50 acres of land with all the necessary facility for the students right from their library, which contains a variety of books, and the auditorium is very vast and air-conditioned, and a well-equipped computer lab with the new system and latest software. And the hostel facility in this college is brilliant which contains an internet facility, gym, etc. for the student’s benefit.

The Institute provides Full-time, Part-time, and Executive programs in Business Management along with Masters in Computer Applications and Doctoral Programs.  Aside from the regular schedule, the institute offers customized and industry-specific certificate and organizational development programs for government bodies.

Admission Process for All MBA programs at K J Somaiya Institute of Management:

For 2 Year MBA Full-Time program:

• The candidate has to fill the online Somaiya Application form on the website
• The aspirants need to submit a valid exam score. CAT 2021 / XAT 2022/ CMAT 2022/ NMAT / GMAT (Scores valid from 1st January 2019 to 31st January 2022) scores are accepted.

The candidate can apply for more than one Programme.

• The candidates will be shortlisted and called for further process of case analysis and Personal Interview (CA/PI). The shortlisting for the CA/PI process happens based on the test scores submitted, while only profile-based shortlisting will be applicable for MBA HCM and MBA SM. The shortlisted candidates need to pick a slot for their CA/PI process.
• The CA/PI process will be conducted online on the zoom platform and an in-depth interview to understand the candidate will be conducted.
• The results on the performance in the CA/PI along with various other parameters will be issued by the institute. The seat allotment is based on results, preferences, and availability of seats.

For 15 months MBA Executive program:

• The candidate has to fill the online Somaiya Application form on the website
• The aspirants need to submit a valid exam score. CAT 2021 / XAT 2022/ CMAT 2022/ NMAT / GMAT (Scores valid from 1st January 2019 to 31st January 2022) scores are accepted.
• The candidates will be shortlisted and called for further process of Personal Interview (PI).
• The PI process will be conducted online on the Zoom platform or physically and an in-depth interview to understand the candidate.
• The results on the performance in the PI along with various other parameters will be issued by the institute.

MBA Programme Details:

The Institute has decided to offer the incoming students an opportunity to carve a pathway for themselves in planning their careers in line with their interests and aspirations. Thus providing them FREEDOM OF POSSIBILITIES in planning their future. From the academic year AY 2022, the Institute will be offering an MBA program that merges the various specializations and super specializations into MAJOR and MINOR domains.

Selection Process

Previous Update:

The pedagogy at K J Somaiya comprises case studies, projects, assignments, presentations, guest lectures, role plays, field visits, field projects, and interactive classroom lectures. Students are expected to spend considerable time in self-study and come prepared for the classes. The teaching-learning process lays emphasis on leadership and integrative thinking as peer group learning.

Keeping in mind the Institute’s objective of developing managers with cross-functional skills, the Institute encourages students to choose a set of electives across different areas of specializations and interdisciplinary areas. This facility is subject to an adequate number of students applying for an elective.

Batch Size: 120

Batch Composition: The current batch comprises of 39% female students and 61% male students. 42.37% of the students are fresh graduates and more than 35% of the students have work experience up to 24 months. Approximately 65% of the current batch has an Engineering degree and just more than 10% have a BCom degree.

Placements: For the placement of 2016-18 batch, more than 175 companies visited the campus, out of them more than 55 companies visited the campus for the first time. The highest salary offered for the batch was Rs 30,00,000 with an average salary of Rs 9,87,000 for the entire batch. 40% of the students were placed in the Banking, Insurance and Financial domain and 23% of the students got placed in IT sector. Some of the top recruiters include – Grofers, LG, Capgemini, SBI, CITI, CRISIL, Amazon, ITC, Canon among others.

Admission Process: Aspirants will be shortlisted for the selection process if they clear the cut-off of either CAT/ XAT/CMAT & GMAT as set by the institute. The consolidated merit position of every aspirant will be declared based on aspirants Profile + performance in the GD and PI. The candidates can then again choose a program in the counseling round based on their preference and merit rank. The institute will allocate seats in the program based on merit rank, seat availability, and allot wait-list numbers for other choices of the aspirant.
