The Department of Industrial & Management Engineering (IME) at Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IIT Kanpur), India was established with the aim of synergizing technology with management in a comprehensive manner so that the knowledge gained may be used for the benefit of the society at large. The course work includes compulsory and elective courses along with a capstone project in the participant’s interest. Specializations offered in MBA include sectoral areas of Manufacturing Management and Service Management besides the functional areas of Operations, Systems, Marketing, Finance, and Human Resource Management.

Batch Size: 38 (Batch 0f 2016-18)

Batch Composition: The batch of 2016-18, had only 38 students with an average work experience of 21 months. More than a third of the batch had work experience of 12-23 months, 29% of students having work experience of 0-11 months. More than 60% percent of the batch came from the IT Industry and only 7% were from the manufacturing industry. But, 37% of the students were having a Mechanical Engineering degree, followed by CS/IT at 26% and Electronics at 16%.

Placements: During the placement process of the 2016-18 batch, 28 companies visited the campus and among them, 9 visited the campus for the first time. The students also received 7 Pre-Placement Offers (PPO). The highest CTC offered was Rs 18 Lakhs and the average CTC for the entire batch stood at Rs 10.48 Lakhs. The average CTC for the top 30% and 50% of the batch was Rs 12.61 Lakhs and Rs 11.10 Lakhs respectively. While 38% of the batch got Marketing roles, 29% got Analytics, 14% got IT/Consulting and 14% got Finance roles.

Admission Process: Initial shortlisting of candidates, for sending invitation letters for Interview/GD, shall be done based on their performance in CAT. The final merit for making offers of admission to the Program will be based on their aggregate performance in the Written Test (CAT) followed by Group Discussion, Interview, and their Work Experience.
